Dimensional Certainty Protocol.
Precision-ground titanium rods with h7 tolerance (0/-0.015mm). Engineered for Swiss lathe machining of dental implant components with zero dimensional drift.
01 Understanding h7 Tolerance
What is h7 Tolerance?
h7 is an ISO 286 tolerance grade representing tight dimensional control for shaft-type components. The "h" indicates the tolerance zone is positioned entirely below the nominal diameter (0 to negative deviation).
Why h7 Matters for Swiss Lathe
-
Collet Grip ConsistencySwiss lathes use split collets that require consistent rod diameter. h7 prevents slippage and vibration during high-RPM spindle operation.
-
Tool Life PredictabilityDimensional variation <15μm means cutting depth remains constant. Eliminates unexpected tool breakage from diameter "jumps".
-
No Mid-Run AdjustmentsCNC programs don't need offset compensation between bars. Same G-code produces identical parts across entire production run.
02 Tolerance Grade Comparison
| Tolerance Grade | Deviation (Ø10mm) | Typical Application | ValidTi Suitability |
|---|---|---|---|
| h6 | 0 / -0.009mm | High-precision bearings, gauge blocks | Overkill for dental (costly) |
| h7 ✓ | 0 / -0.015mm | Swiss lathe stock, precision shafts | RECOMMENDED (ValidTi Standard) |
| h8 | 0 / -0.022mm | General machining, CNC turning | Acceptable for lower-volume work |
| h9 | 0 / -0.036mm | Manual lathe, rough machining | NOT recommended (collet issues) |
| h11 (Commercial) | 0 / -0.090mm | Raw bar stock, low-precision work | Unsuitable for Swiss lathe |
* Deviation values per ISO 286-2:2010 for nominal diameter 10mm. Other diameters have proportional tolerances.
03 Manufacturing Process: Centerless Grinding
Process Overview
ValidTi h7 rods are produced using centerless grinding, a continuous-feed precision grinding method that removes material uniformly across the entire rod length without requiring center holes.
Starting material: Hot-rolled Grade 23 ELI bars (h11 tolerance), acid-pickled to remove surface scale.
Diamond grinding wheels remove 0.2-0.5mm per side, achieving h7 tolerance and Ra 0.4μm surface finish.
Every rod passes through laser micrometer (±0.001mm resolution) for full-length dimensional verification.
